Case Against TGV For Insulting IAS Officers

The troubles for Minister for minor irrigation T G Venkatesh for his unsavoury and inflammatory comments against the IAS officers are far from over.

A retired IAS officer of 1982 batch B V Papa Rao on Friday filed a criminal case against Venkatesh in the Medchal police station for calling upon the people to shoot dead IAS officers who have become headstrong and are not discharging their duties properly.

Papa Rao, who served as Home Secretary of Assam and also with the United Nations during his career, said in his complaint that the statement the minister attracted criminal liability under various IPC sections.

The IAS officers’ association met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy once again on Friday and sought action against the minister for his comments. The Chief Minister called up the minister and asked him to withdraw his remarks.

Venkatesh, however, did not relent. He said he had not discussed anything with the Chief Minister on the IAS officers’ issue. “Some channels are carrying wrong news about the CM asking for my apology. I will face a criminal case against such channels,” he said.

14 shot dead at US theatre screening Batman film

Washington: At least 14 people were killed and 50 injured Friday in Denver at a cinema hall showing the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises", a movie about a terrorist leader who overwhelms Gotham's finest.

Witnesses said the gunman wearing a gas mask opened fire and set off a type of smoke or tear gas bomb at the Century Theater in Aurora Mall outside Denver, reported Xinhua citing KUSA-TV.

Radio KOA said 30 to 40 people were injured and some may have been killed in the shooting.

As many as 20 people were being treated for gunshot wounds, three of them in serious condition, said CNN.

Police said the suspected gunman was in custody.

According to imdb, eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham's finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.

The movie has been directed by Christopher Nolan and it stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman.

Dan Oates, a police official, said: "Witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister. They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire."

CBI JD shifts focus to Vizag scam

Central Bureau of Investigation joint director V V Lakshminarayana is getting busy with more and more scandals surfacing. The latest in his list inquiries is the Rs 526 crore scam involving allotment of plots to private persons in MVP Colony by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (Vuda) in violation of court orders.

For the last two days, the CBI top cop has been camping in Visakhapatnam, personally investigating into the land scam. He is learnt to have gathered a lot of evidence against the officials involved in the scam.

The Vuda then approved a proposal for allotment of six plots to these five persons and a developer in an extent of 3,282 square yards at a cost of Rs 3,500 per square yard, which was the minimum upset price for auctioning the plots in 2001, without taking the prevalent market rates into consideration in 2009. Armed with the land possession, the buyers even started construction of a multi-storied apartment on the land.

When the issue snowballed into a controversy, GVMC revoked the approval of the building plan three months ago. The plot buyers challenged the GVMC action in the high court. The court then directed the CBI, Visakhapatnam to take up an inquiry and file a report.

Jagan gave unsolicited support to Pranab!

The Congress party leaders in the state do not seem to have any gratitude towards YSR Congress party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy for voting in favour of UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee in the Presidential elections.

Instead of appreciating the gesture of Jagan, the Congress leaders started talking in a demeaning tone.

“Who asked Jagan to support Pranab Mukherjee? On behalf of the Congress party, we never approached Jagan seeking his support. We made a formal request only with the MIM and the Left parties. You better ask the YSR Congress party leaders as to why they had voted for Pranab” minister for legislative affairs D Sridhar Babu told the media after the polling.

He said the YSR Congress party might have voted for Pranab because of his secular credentials. He, however, said he would thank the Jagan party for extending unsolicited support for whatever reason.

“There is absolutely no truth in the media reports that Jagan has voted for Pranab as part of understanding with the Congress. The talk of vote-for-bail is only the creation of media,” the minister said.
