ఎన్డీయేలో అప్పుడే ‘ప్రధాని’ చిచ్చు!
- న్యూఢిల్లీ, జూన్ 19: రాష్టప్రతి ఎన్నిక విషయంలో తలెత్తిన సంక్షోభం ఒక కొలిక్కి రాకముందే లౌకికవాదే భావి ప్రధానిగా ఉండాలని ఎన్డీయే భాగస్వామ్యపక్షమైన జెడి(యు) నాయకుడు, బీహార్ ముఖ్యమంత్రి నితీష్‌కుమార్ తన బద్దవిరోధి, గుజరాత్ ముఖ్యమంత్రి నరేంద్ర మోడీపై సంధించిన బాణం బిజెపిని ఇరుకున పడేయడమే కాకుండా ఎన్డీఏలో మరోచిచ్చుకు దారితీస్తోంది. వచ్చే పార్లమెంటు ఎన్నికల్లో ఎన్డీయే ప్రధాని అభ్యర్థిగా ఎంపియ్యే వ్యక్తి లౌకిక వాది అయి ఉండాలని ఎన్డీయే ప్రధాన భాగస్వామ్య పక్షాల్లో ఒకటయిన జెడి(యు) నాయకుడు నితీశ్‌కుమార్ అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు. వచ్చే లోక్‌సభ ఎన్నికల్లో ప్రధాని పదవికి బిజెపి అభ్యర్థిగా గుజరాత్ ముఖ్యమంత్రి నరేంద్ర మోడీ అన్ని విధాల అర్హుడని ఆ పార్టీలోని ఒక వర్గం ప్రచారం చేస్తున్న నేపథ్యంలో నితీశ్ కుమార్ ఈ ప్రకటన చేయడం గమనార్హం. ఎన్డీయే అభ్యర్థి సమాజంలోని అన్ని వర్గాల ప్రజలకు ఆమోదయోగ్యుడై ఉండాలని చెప్పడం ద్వారా బిజెపి నాయకుడు, గుజరాత్ ఉప ముఖ్యమంత్రి సుశీల్ కుమార్ మోడీ సైతం నితీశ్ అభిప్రాయాన్ని సమర్థించడం విశేషం.
ప్రజలు తాము ఎవరికి ఓటు వేయాలో ఆలోచించుకోవడం కోసం 2014లో జరిగే లోక్‌సభ ఎన్నికలకు ముందుగానే ఎన్డీయే తన అభ్యర్థిని ప్రకటించాలని కూడా నితీశ్ గట్టిగా అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు. అయితే తాను ప్రధానమంత్రి పదవిని కోరుకోవడం లేదని స్పష్టం చేసారు. ‘బీహార్ లాంటి అభివృద్ధిలో వెనుకబడిన రాష్ట్రాల సమస్యలు తెలిసిన నాయకుడిని ఎన్డీఏ ఎంపిక చేయాలి. కూటమిలోని అన్ని భాగస్వామ్య పక్షాలకు ఆయన ఆమోదయోగ్యుడై కూడా ఉండాలి. కూటమి అభ్యర్థి లౌకిక వాదయి ఉండాలనేది నా అభిప్రాయం’ అని ‘ఎకనామిక్ టైమ్స్’ పత్రికకు ఇచ్చిన ఇంటర్వ్యూలో నితీశ్ చెప్పారు. నితీశ్‌కు, నరేంద్ర మోడీకి మధ్య పచ్చగడ్డి వేస్తే భగ్గుమంటుందన్న విషయం అనేక సందర్భాల్లో వెల్లడయిన విషయం తెలిసిందే. గత లోక్‌సభ, బీహార్ అసెంబ్లీ ఎన్నికల సమయంలో ప్రచారానికి నరేంద్ర మోడీని బిజెపి దూరంగా ఉంచడానికి కూడా ఇదే కారణం.
ప్రజాస్వామ్య విలువల పట్ల పూర్తి నమ్మకం కలిగిన వ్యక్తి ఎన్డీయే అభ్యర్థిగా ఉండాలని నితీశ్ ఇంటర్వ్యూలో స్పష్టం చేసారు. ప్రధానమంత్రి అభ్యర్థిగా ఎన్నికయిన నాయకుడికి ప్రజాస్వామ్య విలువల పట్ల పూర్తి విశ్వాసం ఉండాలి. భారత్‌లాంటి పలు మతాలు, పలు భాషలున్న దేశంలో నాయకుడి వ్యక్తిత్వంలో లోపాలు ఉండరాదు. నాయకుడు అందరినీ కలుపుకొని పోయే వాడయినప్పుడు మాత్రమే ఒక కూటమి ఎన్నికల్లో విజయం సాధించగలదని కూడా నితీశ్ కుమార్ స్పష్టం చేసారు. అంతేకాదు, సమయం వచ్చినప్పుడు మిగతా ఎన్డీయే భాగస్వామ్య పక్షాల వద్ద కూడా తన అభిప్రాయాలను స్పష్టంగా చెప్తానని కూడా ఆయన తెలిపారు.
ప్రధానమంత్రి పెద్ద పార్టీకి చెందిన వాడే ఉండాలి. మేము ప్రోత్సాహక పాత్రను మాత్రమే పోషించగలం. అయితే కూటమికి ఎవరు నాయకత్వం వహిస్తారనే దానిపై అది అధారపడి ఉంటుంది. నాయకుడిగా ఉండే వ్యక్తికి ఉండాల్సిన లక్షణాలేమిటో నేను ఇంతకు ముందే చెప్పాను అని నితీశ్ స్పష్టం చేసారు.

ఈ పాత్ర చేయడానికి చాలా ఇబ్బంది పడ్డాను. తినే తిండి దగ్గర్నుంచి మానసికంగా ప్రశాంతంగా ఉండటానికి చేయాల్సిన వర్కవుట్లన్నీ చేశాను. నాలో మార్పు వచ్చిందని కొంతమంది చెబుతుంటే ఆనందంగా ఉంది. ఈ సినిమా నటిగా కూడా నాకు మంచి సంతృప్తినిచ్చింది అంటోంది శ్రీదేవి.
లాంగ్ గ్యాప్ తర్వతా అతిలోక సుందరి శ్రీదేవి చేస్తున్న చిత్రం ‘ఇంగ్లీష్‌ -వింగ్లీష్‌'. హిందీలో రూపొందుతున్న ఈ చిత్రానికి ‘చీనీకమ్‌', ‘పా' చిత్రాలు తీసిన ఆర్‌.బాలకృష్ణన్‌ సతీమణి గౌరీ షిండె దర్శకత్వం వహించారు. ‘ఇంగ్లీష్‌ -వింగ్లీష్‌' చిత్రానికి కథ, కథనాన్ని ఆమే సమకూర్చుకుంది. చిత్రీకరణ అంతా న్యూయార్క్‌లో జరిగింది. ఇప్పటికే విడుదలైన పస్ట్ లుక్ పోస్టర్స్ , ట్రైలర్స్ అంతటా చర్చనీయాంశంగా మారాయి. |

Gold extends golden run to hit new high; silver also spurts
MUMBAI: Gold prices hardened further to hit another life-time highs at the bullion market here today on consistent speculative off-take from investors and stockists following a rally in international markets.
Silver also tracked the yellow metal and spurted on heavy demand on the back of good industrial buying.
Standard gold (99.5 purity) rose by Rs 195 to end at Rs 30,295 per 10 grams from Monday's closing level of Rs 30,100.
Pure gold (99.9 purity) surged by Rs 205 to close at Rs 30,445 per 10 gm from Rs 30,240 yesterday.
Silver ready (.999 fineness) climbed up by Rs 470 per kg to end at Rs 55,530 as compared to Rs 55,060 previously.
"Traders are taking positions on the basis of overseas market, where gold has charmed it way to safe-haven appeal. All eyes now are on the outcome of US Federal Reserve's policy meeting," dealers said.
In Europe, gold rallied for an eighth consecutive session hoping of further stimulus in the backdrop of US Fed meeting as well as safe haven buying.
Spot gold was bid up at $ 1,630.55 an ounce in early trade.

Girl 'raped' in taxi, dumped on road
BARASAT: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a taxi and dumped near the Kolkata airport in the wee hours of Tuesday. The girl was unconscious when police rescued hear from near the boundary wall of the airport. It took her a while to regain sufficient consciousness and tell the police that a youth named Monu, a friend of her brother-in-law, had offered her a ride in a taxi and then misbehaved with her.
The incident follows close on the heels of the rape of a homemaker in Rajarhat by the driver of a luxury taxi. On June 9, the woman was offered a ride to Sealdah station by the driver from near the Exide crossing. Instead of driving to Sealdah, the driver drove to Rajarhat and raped the woman. He was arrested within hours.

"We suspect that she was raped in the taxi. Though a medical examination could not be conducted, we have registered a case of rape based on her complaint. If the victim is not ready to undergo a medical examination, we can't force her. We have begun a search for Monu. We have also alerted all police stations along the border to keep a lookout for him as he may try to leave the country," said Champak Bhattacharya, SP, North 24-Parganas.
Even if the medical examination is not held, the police hope to get vital clues once Monu is held. According to an officer, it makes no difference whether the girl knew Monu or not. He will be charged if the girl alleges sexual assault even if it is found that they were having an affair.

With Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza having won this year's French Open title together, the mixed doubles pair seems to be a better bet for a medal. However, here comes the twist.

Hundreds of fake OBC quota IIT aspirants back out of Joint Entrance Exams
NEW DELHI: Eight hundred IIT aspirantsfrom the other backward classes (OBC), who made it past the Joint Entrance Exams, have stopped short of pressing their claim for the coveted admissions this year. This is a direct fallout of the JEE Committee slamming down on fake certificates. JEE is the body that administers joint entrance exams for all IITs and a few other institutes.
Of the total 4.8 lakh students who appeared for the JEE, 4,805 OBC candidates got through. After the withdrawals, only 4,000 remained in the fray for the 2,604 IIT seats available in this category. All these seats have just been filled this week in the first round of counselling.
"A majority (of those who withdrew) did fear their chances of getting into IITs might fall due to fake certificates," says GB Reddy, organising chairman of IIT-JEE 2012.
Effectively, one out of six OBC candidates who made it past the highly-competitive exams had pulled out or requested to be transferred to the general category, where they had to compete for an IIT seat on merit without the advantage of any reservation.
Life ban threat worked
Two hundred students asked to be considered under the general category, withdrawing their claim under the OBC quota for the first time ever. The remaining 600 students who had applied under the quota did not register for counselling. This figure is at least 500 more than the withdrawals seen last year.
This year, IIT-JEE had came down hard against fake certificates and warned that such candidates, if detected, would be barred from IITs for life. There was also another reason for the withdrawals. Even within the OBC category, those coming from families with household income of less than Rs 4.5 lakh (excluding salary from a government job and agriculture) are considered under the non-creamy layer category and are eligible for reservation for government-sponsored educational and professional benefit programmes.
There was a proposal to revise this to Rs 9 lakh and Rs 12 lakh for rural and urban centres. But this did not materialise. Candidates who had applied expecting this may also have pulled out later. "A warning was issued following some complaints from individuals, after the application process started, who called in to say many candidates who were claiming to be under the OBC category (non-creamy layer) did not belong to the category. The committee then cross-checked with the OBC Commission's website and found it was true. Hence, we issued a warning," says Prof RK Shevgaonkar, director, IIT-Delhi, which is the organising institute for this year's JEE.
Students who qualify under different reserved categories need to submit their category certificates by post at the time of counselling. Registration for counselling in all engineering colleges that accept JEE scores ended on June 10, and the first round of final seat allotment was announced on June 17. Changing PM may not end crisis in Pakistan; fresh polls likely
Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Tuesday disqualified PM Yousaf Raza Gilani as a member of parliament plunging the country into political crisis.

In April, Gilani was convicted by the court that should have disqualified him, but the Speaker of the National Assembly determined that he would not be disqualified. Tuesday's decision, coming in the midst of a series of scandals that envelop even the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Iftikhar Chaudhry, not only raises eyebrows about its timing, but also pits Parliament against the judiciary.
But it's unlikely the entire political class is willing to take on the judiciary. The PPP is expected to name a new PM soon, with names like Makhdoom Shahbuddin and Ahmed Mukhtar swirling around. The latter, according to sources, has a better chance, thanks to his closeness to the president Asif Zardari. The decision, said sources, needs to be taken before Zardari leaves forRussia on Wednesday. For this decision, PPP may have to make yet more unsavoury concessions to its coalition partners like MQM and ANP. The ruling party has seen its popular sympathy, which appeared to have improved after Gilani's conviction, reduce significantly. But Tuesday's crisis is not about to led to the government collapsing immediately.
This is helped by the fact that the PPP government has virtually washed its hands off governance. An acute power shortage and a tanking economy have sharply reduced the party's cache among the electorate. Thus, it would not like to flout the Supreme Court's directives any further for fear that the court could resort to the old trick of asking the army to sack the government.
But this is only a temporary reprieve. Pakistan analysts point to the greater likelihood of the government calling for fresh general elections in 2013. The poll dates could be announced as early as October. At that time, they anticipate a fresh crisis. "As a result of the 20th amendment passed recently, the ruling party and the opposition would have to agree on a caretaker government until the elections. In the present atmosphere, I don't see Zardari and Nawaz Sharifagreeing on anything," said Rana Banerji, who follows Pakistan's internal politics. They would also have to appoint a new Election Commission may prove to be equally difficult. If they fail, this too could end at the court's doorstep, making it an enormous political player.
Chaudhry, too, has been singed. His apparent incorruptibility has been challenged by the revelations that his son, Arsalan, has been trading favours with Malik Riaz Bahria, a prominent contractor. But, the army may not find the same "acceptability" as they did in earlier coups.

Pawan Kalyan's Film As Tamil Remake
Now, it appears that Pawan effect is spreading into other cine circuits. So much that even his flop film is also being remade. News from Chennai is that Pawan’s movie ‘Panjaa’ which tanked at the Andhra box office is now being remade in Tamil and this will have the noted superstar Ajith reprising the role of Pawan.
Though ‘Panjaa’ received flak from Telugu audience, the songs and Pawan’s different look did score few points. The common factor is that the remake is being directed by Vishnuvardhan, the man who made ‘Panjaa’. It is heard that he is still confident about the script and has barely made few changes to it.
