Chiru's image taken a beating!

Megastar K Chiranjeevi, the so-called “trump card” of the Congress party in the by-elections, has failed to live up to the expectations of the high command. The humiliating defeat of the Congress party candidate Venkataramana in the hands of YSR Congress party candidate Bhumana Karunakar Reddy has battered his image heavily.
Though the initial trends went in favour of the Congress party, Bhumana bounced back in the subsequent rounds and grew from strength to strength. And by the time the counting was completed, Bhumana won the Tirupati seat by a comfortable margin of over 18,000 votes which is pretty high, compared to the 10,800 votes majority secured by Chiranjeevi in the 2009 assembly elections.
Even the YSR Congress party leaders did not expect this majority; in fact, they lost hope on this seat because the winds were in favour of the Congress till the day of polling. The ruling party pumped in heavy amount, compared to Bhumana. But, the last day campaign by YSR Congress party honorary president Y S Vijayalakshmi made all the difference, as she drew huge crowds compared to Chiranjeevi’s road show on the same day.
Now, it remains to be seen how the Congress high command treats Chiranjeevi in the party. And AICC observer Vayalar Ravi particularly expressed dissatisfaction over the Tirupati result. The immediate impact would be Chiru should almost forget the union cabinet berth.

Telangana State: Cong To Take It Easy?

Despite the massive drubbing in the by-elections, the Congress high command appears to have not changed its mind on the Telangana statehood demand.
According to indications from New Delhi, the party leadership is not even willing to talk about the statehood issue in the near future, though it was initially believed that there would be a positive indication from the high command in this regard as it wants to save the party at least in this region. “There are absolutely no chances of the party recovering in Rayalaseema region and though it can a few seats in the coastal Andhra, they are not enough to come back to power. So, it has to concede Telangana state, if it wants to protect its identity in the South India,” a Telangana Congress leader said.
However, the Congress leadership is of the view that it can bounce back in the Seemandhra region by 2014 by intensifying the probe against YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. And it is also of the view that the Telangana sentiment is fading out as was evident from the way the TRS had struggled in the recent Mahbubnagar by-elections and latest Parkal by-elections.
That was why AICC observer Valayar Ravi reacted violently when asked about the Telangana sentiment. “Is there a Telangana sentiment still? If that is the case, how can YSR Congress party get so many votes in Parkal by-poll?” he asked. His words clearly indicate the mindset of Sonia Gandh and she is unlikely to take the risk of bifurcating the state.

Tirupati winners margin shocks poll pundits

TIRUPATI: Brushing aside expectations that, the winner can only manage a narrow margin for the Tirupati Assembly constituency, YSRC contestant Bhumana Karunakar Reddy emerged victorious with a huge margin of 17,975 against his Congress rival M Venkataramana.Though the margin looks small compared to other constituencies, it is massive compared to number of votes polled in the constituency.Tirupati recorded the lowest voting percentage, 54.69 percent, among the 18 constituencies.

It is also bigger when compared to the margin of actor-turned-politician K Chiranjeevi, who had defeated the same Karunakar Reddy during the 2009 general elections, with a margin of over 15,000 votes.Though tension gripped the counting hall when Venkataramana started with a majority of 16 votes in first round and gave a fight in second, wherein the YSRC candidate went to a majority of 117 votes. After that tension mood was off with the margin of YSRC candidate swelling from the third round to the last round (19th).

While, Reddy got 59,195 votes, the Congress nominee got 41,220 votes. The TDP candidate Chadalawada Krishnamurty was confined to the third place after securing 30,453 votes.Despite losing deposits, CPM candidate K Murali and BJP candidate J Madhusudhan also secured sizable votes by getting 2,372 and 1,103 votes respectively. The announcement of the results went on at a snail's pace. The final result was announced after 4:30 pm, with the poll observer personally monitoring all the calculations round-by-round, after he found some errors in the beginning of the counting process.

Is 'Rachcha' Director A Servant In Chiru's House?

In the film industry, the place that a director holds is quite high because he is called the captain of the ship. So, there is a degree of respect he deserves. And if he happens to be the director of a hit film then the regard is more. But nothing of that sort seems to be the case with director Sampath Nandi.

This is the feeling many got when they watched Sampath during the marriage of Ram Charan. He was noticed folding hands, bending forward and speaking very obediently. Those who don’t recognize him were asking “Is he a director? He has scored a hit and he can stand with some poise.”

Some also felt he was standing like a servant and few others gave three interpretations out of his body language-
  • This is Sampath Nandi’s ‘Nakka Vinayam’
  • This is the treatment he is getting from them, if he can be like that only he will get chances
  • His basic nature is like that
Few discussions are already happening in social networking sites such as Facebook. Perhaps it is time for Sampath Nandi to mend his ways.

Mahesh Babu Desperate Waiting For GC

Just recently it was reported that Namrata Mahesh was expecting and the due date has been given as August. Now, it is heard from sources close to the Ghattamaneni family that Mahesh Babu is eagerly hoping to have a girl child this time. However, he has not done any scanning or anything for Namrata.

Sources say the family wants to maintain that curiosity. The source adds that first time also Mahesh expected a girl but was blessed with a boy. However, that has not reduced an inch of his love towards Gautham Krishna. And this time again Mahesh is reportedly expecting a baby girl.

If that happens then they will have the ideal family of a boy and girl. There is also a buzz that Namrata from her end is open to boy or girl but she is hoping that her hubby’s wishes are fulfilled. For now, the fingers are crossed over who is going to step into the family of the prince. Let the suspense continue…

Jagan makes impact on Andhra Pradesh politics

The byelections to one Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly constituencies that saw the 15-month-old YSR Congress party make a near sweep, has given rise to the 'Jagan phenomenon' in Andhra Pradesh politics.
So much so that everyone is now seeking to liken him to N.T. Rama Rao, who re-wrote the political history of the state by forming the Telugu Desam Party in 1982.
It will, however, be preposterous to draw parallels between NTR and Jagan as the two are poles apart in every respect.
The one reason that has made Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy a popular political leader in Andhra Pradesh now is his open defiance of Sonia Gandhi.
He remained loyal to her only to the extent that his 'self-respect' was not impinged upon.Once the Congress chief sought to encroach on what he believed was his 'personal territory', Jagan rebelled and walked out on Sonia.
His dramatic rise has been the Congress' fall in a state that helped the grand old party grab power at the Centre for two consecutive terms since 2004.
In 2004, if Congress rose like a phoenix to capture power in Andhra Pradesh, it was singularly due to Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and it was the same man who rode it power for a second consecutive term in 2009. The Congress could never deny this.
This is precisely another factor that contributed to Jagan’s political rise – built on his late father’s legacy.
The third factor that worked in Jagan’s favour was the 'credibility crisis' that the principal opposition Telugu Desam Party’s chief N. Chandrababu Naidu was stuck in.
The leadership vacuum in the Congress, after YSR's death, has come as a blessing in disguise for the 39-year-old leader whose clear target is the Chief Minister’s post.
Jagan succeeded in striking a positive chord with common people largely based on the goodwill that his late father earned for himself through a slew of 'welfare' programmes.
He merely used to remind people of what all his father did for them as Chief Minister and promise to continue the same trend.
"People took his word, for they believe Jagan will be as steadfast as his father in implementing what all he promised," observers say. Of course, there are certain negative attributes to Jagan, those who know him very closely say.
"He is 'diametrically opposite' to his father who had a lot of grace," they feel. However, the biggest stumbling block for Jagan in reaching his goal (CM's chair) is the Telangana issue.
He is certainly a strong force in Andhra-Rayalaseema regions but not in Telangana.Unless the YSR Congress takes a clear stand on the statehood issue, Jagan may not make inroads in Telangana and that could dampen his prospects.
The Telangana region alone has 119 seats in the 294-member AP Assembly and, thus, Jagan's fortunes ultimately rest on his stand on the statehood demand. (PTI)

Why don't women initiate sex?

Why don't women initiate sex? (Thinkstock photos/Getty Images)

"Though I love our image of the 'perfect couple', but if I read between the lines, may be I am unsatisfied.

It's been three years, but I am still desperately waiting for the day when my lady love will take the sexual lead and surprise me with her moves. Many times, I thought of discussing it with her, but dropped the idea as she may find it derogatory. Though we share a great chemistry, be it in or outside the bedroom, still I crave for the day when she would make the first move," confesses Samrat Tripathi, a 29-year-old Delhi-based media person.

Samrat isn't the only one craving for his girl to initiate the action in bed. "Is it just me who wants sex?", "Am I failing to satisfy her?", "Is my technique wrong?", "Does she wish for more pampering and foreplay?" are some of the thoughts that keep haunting men. This thought process keeps them so occupied that most of the time they fail to see some of the very obvious reasons for their problem.

It takes no rocket science to understand your beloved's physical needs, you just need to be caring and sensitive to figure out what's stopping her from making the first move. Here are some of the most common reasons holding her back...

Will he respond?
Many women with fragile ego find it difficult to kick start the action in the bedroom, as the fear of rejection keeps hounding them.

Aarti Rawat, a call centre executive says, "I am not afraid of telling my boyfriend what I need from him, but something holds me back initiating sex. Guys are so complicated and it's difficult to understand their needs so I keep guessing what's on his mind. I can just give him subtle signals like rubbing my cheeks against his or a passionate kiss to reveal my innate desires, but most of the times he fails to understand my hidden passion within these moves. It obviously hurts me so, even if I want to, so I let him take the lead."

Expert speak: Dr Sunil Mittal, a relationship counselor suggests, "There is a very simple rule in love, leave your ego hassles on the other side of the door. It is not only women who are frightened of rejection, at times men also feel the same. So first of all, start responding to the hints that your partner is dropping for you. If she kisses you, then respond in an equally passionate way. Don't ignore her needs and cravings, even if you are very busy. Tell her you need some time if you are pre-occupied and let her feel you are intently listening to her desires. Tell her that you really love it when she makes the first move. It will definitely boost her confidence and her fear of rejection may disappear soon."

Facebook wants your mobile number

Facebook wants your mobile number
In a bid to improve security on Facebook, the social networking website is asking each of its more than 900 million active users to provide it with their mobile phone numbers.

LONDON: In a bid to improve security on Facebook, the social networking website is asking each of its more than 900 million active users to provide it with their mobile phone numbers.

The move comes in the wake of much-publicised password hacks at other networking sites including LinkedIn and eHarmony, the Daily Mail reported.

Millions of Facebook users have already seen a link at the top of their desktop news feed requesting them to follow 'simple security tips'.

Those that click on the link are led to the site's security page where they are asked to pick a unique password and given a tutorial on how to spot an online scam.

They are then requested to provide their phone number for secure account recovery.

This, Facebook claims, works because when a user confirms their phone number it allows the site to automatically wipe their password in the event of their account being hacked.

The social network would then send a text message to the user informing that their password has been changed.

This, the site reasons, would be preferable to sending the user and email because many of these are ignored as assumed junk and get deleted.

Facebook today said the desktop security message, already seen by millions of users in the US, will be on all accounts in the next few days.

However, it claims that the security update has nothing to do with the recent LinkedIn hack.

The social network for professionals, LinkedIn admitted to being hacked, but did not reveal the exact figure, although 6.5 million of its 161 million users' passwords appeared online on a website.

The website added that the lists published online only contained passwords and not logins, but that in all probability any hacker would have them too.

And California-based eHarmony, one of the world's most popular online dating websites, also admitted earlier this month that the personal passwords of some of its customers were hacked and posted online.

The company, which has over 20 million registered users, confirmed that passwords had been compromised but did not reveal the exact number, although some technology experts have put the figure at 1.5 million.

Microsoft renames, revamps Hotmail

Microsoft renames, revamps Hotmail
Newmail is understood to have a 'clean look' when it comes to the font that has been used for the labels in the inbox, which resembles its Google adversary.

WASHINGTON: In the hope of bringing back millions of users, software giant Microsoft has revamped its email service Hotmail, which has a striking resemblance to Gmail in its design.

Newmail is understood to have a 'clean look' when it comes to the font that has been used for the labels in the inbox, which resembles itsGoogle adversary.

According to the Daily Mail, Microsoft has claimed it has a 'fluid and interactive design', which is expressly designed to work well on mobile devices such as phones or tablets.

Hotmail is still the biggest email provider in the world with some 360 million users, but Gmail has caught up with 350 million, shooting up from just 260 million users last October.

A website LiveSide, that has obtained screen shots of Newmail, shows a significantly more attractive home screen, with none of the clutter which had long bedevilled Hotmail.

Liveside said that Newmail will initially be available on an opt-in basis to existing Hotmail customers, but Microsoft has not ruled out making it compulsory in future.

The new email service will also be linked to Facebook and Twitter and will allow users to keep their contacts automatically in sync and see what their friends are doing on the service.

The new name Newmail, however, appears to be just the title for the service and users will still have @hotmail email addresses.

Aamir hopes 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari' beats '3 Idiots'

Ferrari Ki Sawaari: New Trailer
Ferrari Ki Sawaari

Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani starrerFerrari Ki Sawari hits the theatres Friday andAamir Khan hopes that the film does so well at the box office that it beats the success of their movie 3 Idiots.

"I am here to wish the entire team. I am sure they have made a good film and Sharman is a nice actor and our wishes are with them. We want everyone who watched 3 Idiots to watchFerrari Ki Sawaari also. We wish that this film goes far beyond 3 Idiots," the 47-year-old said here Thursday at the premiere of the film.

Ferrari Ki Sawaari is Rajesh Mapuskar's directorial debut and has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Rajkumar Hirani, who has edited the film, stated that the intention was to make a film for under Rs.100 crore.

"The film has not been made with the intention of crossing the Rs.100 crore mark. If that had been our intention, we would have been making at least one film a year. I take three years to make a film. If money was the intention, then every year we would have been making two films," said Hirani.

Ferrari Ki Sawaari tells the story of a father who will go to any length to fulfil his son's dream of becoming a cricketer.

I prefer to be like Steven Spielberg: Kamal Haasan

I prefer to be like Steven Spielberg: Kamal Haasan
Kamal Haasan

Chennai burns at a sweltering 38 degree C. But Kamal Haasan's office cabin is freezing. The actor jokes saying — "I'm not material for cold storage, but I like the temperatures that way" His Viswaroop (Hindi) is in its final stages of mixing. The trade says it will release in August. The filmmaker says — "I'll let you know soon." Between cups of hot Kumbakonam degree coffee, he finds time for a quick chat.

Is Viswaroop (Hindi) (Viswaroopam in Tamil) — written, produced and directed by you — your most ambitious project?
I'm borrowing a line from writer-filmmaker Ingmar Bergman here. He said, 'Every time I do a film, I think this is the last film.' It could be. We don't really know. Hypothetically, what would I do if this were my last film? I don't know if I will be allowed to make another film. Anything unforeseen can happen. So every film that I make, I just put everything I have in it. You see, for the audience it may not be the last film that they are seeing. But for an actor, every film he does, should be done in that spirit, because that's the only way to approach your work. I will not kill myself over a film. I adopt a very motherly attitude to every film of mine. I want to feed it, nurture it, and give it all the emotion I have. So many things can go wrong even if you are the top star. The biggest names like Johnny DeppTom CruiseBrad Pitt, if you think there is 200 crore riding on each of their projects, there are also 200 crore-worth of obstacles to surmount. Believe me, if you live, eat, breathe movies like the way I do, then you tend to obsess over your movies. An actor, filmmaker can either be just an actor — shun the problems on set, lock himself inside his vanity van and play with Dame Luck — or he can be right there with the rest of the crew leading from the front. Makers like Steven Spielberg etch every line that goes into making their film. I prefer to be like Spielberg, this keeps me happy and busy.

After 200 films you still have a child-like enthusiasm towards your work. And for an actor who is in his late 50s, you also seem to have preserved your looks very well.
I've my father to thank for this. I've not gone into the hands of a plastic surgeon, at least not yet. If it comes to that, I will do anything to preserve my looks.

What's next after Viswaroop?
I am looking at a sequel to Viswaroop. We are prepping it. I have a script in hand. I read some media report the other day saying — 'Kamal has overshot hence he is making a sequel.' This is insulting and is not true. I know there is scope for a sequel here. Instead of making a three-and-a-half-hour film, I decided to tell the rest of the story in a sequel.

You were very prolific at one point. Of late you have cut down on assignments as an actor.
That's because we have no good producers here. A man having money and respect doesn't qualify as a producer. Production is a technique. It needs a talent, just like acting does. You can't run a magazine just because you have money. You need the right editors/journalists. Producing a movie is as important and as much a hands on job as direction. When I say that out of 200 films that I have done, I've only 100 perfect producers, it doesn't mean that as an actor, I wasn't served my breakfast on time, or that I got my tea in a plastic cup. I'm talking about producers who have done evil to the film. Those who've harmed the aesthetics of the film.

So the attitude of callous producers seems to have left a bitter taste in your mouth?
I can't generalize. For every bad producer that I met, I have also met a good one. However, the dismissive producers and their talks disturb me. I have heard guys saying — 'these guys are fussing too much over the script.' Or others suggesting— 'Sir, take two nice girls, go to a foreign location and shoot the film.' It's almost like they are suggesting that I have a picnic. It's also been suggested that there should be more women on set because it's fun. This is the wrong attitude.

Did the rest of India wake up to the Kamal-Rajini phenomenon late?
I don't think that's true, at least in my case. The Hindi film industry has been on my side from the time I did Ek Duuje Ke Liye. When I needed them to have their eyes open for me, they were there. It's my fault that I haven't made too many Hindi films. I still have people from across the country meeting me at airports and asking me — 'When is your next film?' How can I tell them, it will take another two years. So I say soon. It's my fault that I release a film once in 2-3 years. This is not the best thing to do. The people of India have been with me. I'm the Rip Van Winkle. I don't want to miss out on any segment of the audience, so I've made my films in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Why have you been caught napping?
The thing is now I write and direct my movies besides just acting in them. That takes a whole year out of me. Nayakan has a place in film history?

Yet we haven't seen Mani Ratnam and you join forces on a project.
My film with Mani may or may not happen. We talk, but nothing seems to materialize. Shekhar Kapur and I have been talking of doing a film together for the last 35 years. And we are still only talking...

Will we see Rajinikanth and you in a project again?
If you have Rajini and me on board, the sky is the limit to how much you can sell a film for. But there is also a limit to how much you can pay the two of us as actors. When you finish giving him and me our remunerations, I don't think there will much of a budget left to make the movie with.

Finally your daughters-Shruti and Akshara are both in the movies. Are you happy for them?
Of course I am. Though I always thought Akshara would be in front of the camera and Shrutibehind it.

Woman gets superbug with breast implant

Woman gets superbug with breast implant
The 30-year-old, who had undergone a breast implant surgery in 2009, was found to be suffering from an MRSA infection.

MUMBAI: When a new mother from south Mumbai sought medical help for the significant distortion of her right breast, the term super-bug never crossed her mind. She may, however, be the most telling example of poor infection-control in Indian hospitals and the ensuing threat to patients undergoing surgeries.

The 30-year-old, who had undergone a breast implant surgery in 2009, was found to be suffering from an MRSA infection. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is one of the most potent superbugs or bacteria resistant to antibiotics. A few years back, the medical journal Lancet carried a series of controversial articles stating that newer superbugs such as NDM-1 (New Delhi Metallo-Beta-Lactamase 1) had emerged from India.

The young mother's right breast was not only more than double the size of the left, it was also lumpy and painful. An evaluation revealed that she first experienced firmness in her breast six months after the surgery, but she thought it was a result of her pregnancy. But the firmness worsened after she delivered her baby and started breast-feeding.

It was only when the doctors did an MRI scan did they realize that there was an infection in the lining (capsule) of the implant. "The MRI scan showed she was suffering from capsular contracture," said Dr Mohan Thomas, consultant cosmetic surgeon at Breach Candy Hospital. "She had undergone the cosmetic surgery in another hospital. By the time she came to us, the capsule (implant lining) of her right breast was about 12mm in size," he said, adding a normal lining does not go beyond 2mm in thickness.

The body reacts to any implant by forming a protective lining around it. This is referred to as the "capsule" or "tissue capsule" and is formed by one's own tissue. In some women, however, the capsule shrinks, squeezing the implant, referred to as capsular contracture. The tighter the capsule becomes, the firmer the breast feels.

It was only after her surgery that the reason for the capsular contracture was found. "While doing the surgery, a large amount of pus and fluid kept oozing out of her breast. We had to remove layers and layers of the capsule. After the surgery, we sent the fluid for examination and it turned out to be MRSA," said Dr Thomas. What surprised doctors was that clinical tests showed no signs of the infection, but only the fluid filled in the capsules showed the presence of the pathogens.

"If this pathogen had spread across the body, it could have killed the person. But in this woman's case, her capsule had taken the whole burden of this pathogen," said Dr Thomas. Worse, he said, she could have passed on the infection to her child since she was breast-feeding. After both her implants were removed, the doctors kept her in hospital until they were satisfied that she was free of infection.
