Suspended Telugu Desam Party legislator Kodali Nani, who created ripples in the political circles for shifting his loyalties to YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, had to face imprisonment for one year for a political activity which he took up seven years ago.
A Kaikalur court on Monday sentenced him to one year imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000 for obstructing the duties of officials at Revenue Divisional Office at Gudivada by demonstrating before the office with the body of a suicide victim way back in 2005.
The person had committed suicide in protest against the indifferent attitude of the revenue officials in extending benefits of government schemes. Nani, who was very active in the TDP then, led a huge rally with hundreds of party workers at the RDO office.
The case has been going on since then and after seven years, the court pronounced the judgement. Nani, however, was given a month’s time for making an appeal in the higher court. Now that he has joined the YSR Congress, he might have to face many more such imprisonments!
