After making all out efforts to lure the Backward Classes towards the Telugu Desam Party by announcing a BC declaration, party president N Chandrababu Naidu has now shifted focus on wooing the SCs, particularly the Magida community.
For the last two days, Naidu has been holding talks with the Dalit leaders on reviving the SC categorization issue. While he has got a favourable response from the Madigas over the proposal to support the SC categorization, the Mala leaders reportedly expressed serious reservation over Naidu’s plan. They pointed out that the TDP had already taken a decision on the SC categorization in the past and there was no need to re-emphasise on the same. “It is better we keep quiet by leaving the issue to the Centre,” they suggested.
When Naidu told them that he wanted to make an announcement as part of SC declaration to support the categorization demand, the Mala leaders told him that the party would lose the support of powerful Mala community in the coastal Andhra. However, Naidu was adamant about his stand and said those did not accept his plan could leave the party.
