Even the Great Wall of China, which is supposed to be visible from the moon, a stronghold of China had succumbed to the continuous lashing of the rains. A portion of this man made wonder and a international tourist attraction has collapsed after the last round of rains.
The portion of the wall in Heibei Province of North China is now being repaired after its collapse after being thrashed by the harsh rains, according to the Xinhua news agency.
The strong water currents that hit the Dajingmen section of the Great Wall in Zhangjiakou and have felled the 36 meter section of the wall which was later cleared by experts. They have also ensured that the loose and vulnerable sections were identified and treated suitably to endure the harsh climatic conditions.
A few cracks on the wall in the proximity of the fallen section were observed. This section of the Great Wall was built by Ming Dynasty (1368- 1644) had weathered the harshest of conditions since its construction.
Floods due to the excessive and continuous rains in most areas of the country have been observed since the inception of the rainy season.
Beijing, which was rarely prone to floods had experienced the worst rainfall in 60 years while the flood had killed over 79 people to date.
