Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is going too extreme to woo the people, particularly womenfolk, towards the Congress party.
On Sunday, the Chief Minister took part in “Samoohika Seemantham,” a programme which is exclusively conducted for pregnant women, as part of his Indiramma Baata programme in Srikakulam district.
It is a tradition where a pregnant woman is offered new clothes, bangles, fruits, sweets, turmeric and vermillion in the fifth month of their pregnancy, wishing her with a safe delivery of a healthy child. Normally, it is an all-women programme conducted in their respective homes.
However, the Kiran government sought to utilize this personal event as a government programme so as to attract votes from women. In this programme, organized by the Women Development and Child Welfare department, the Chief Minister himself distributed sweets, clothes and bangles to pregnant women. He also took part in the christening ceremony of several new-born infants, in which he named a few children.
Well, one wonders whether such gimmicks would fetch any votes for the Congress party in the next elections.
