Sangma denied permission to meet Jagan in jail

Hyderabad: YSR Congress Chief and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy’s judicial custody in connection with the disproportionate assets case ends on Monday.
There are reports that Jagan Reddy will not be produced before the Hyderabad court and, instead, the trial proceedings will be carried on through videoconferencing from Chanchalguda Jail where the 39-year-old politician is lodged.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the disproportionate assets case against Jagan Reddy, is expected to seek further custody of the YSR Congress chief for questioning in connection with the case.
The central probe agency has blamed him for lack of co-operation during questioning. However, Jagan claims that he has never interfered with CBI's investigation or influenced any witnesses since the FIR was registered against him last August.
However, there are chances that the court might grant bail to the YSR Congress chief today.
Jagan was arrested on the May 27 by the CBI over allegations that he amassed huge unaccounted wealth by misusing his late father’s position as the Chief Minister of the Andhra Pradesh.
The special CBI court had dismissed the bail plea on June 1, on the ground that he (being an MP and president of a political party) was in the position to tamper with evidence and influence the witnesses.
Since his arrest on May 27, Jagan has been staying in the Chanchalguda Central Prison.
The CBI has accused him of getting huge investments from various individuals and firms into his businesses as quid-pro-quo for the favours granted by government when his father was the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma, who is contesting the Presidential poll and wanted to meet Jagan Reddy in jail, was denied permission to do so.
Sangma wanted to meet the Kadapa MP seeking his support in the crucial Presidential poll. Jagan Reddy's YSR Congress swept the by-elections to 18 Assembly and also won one Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh earlier this month.
It won 15 of the 18 seats and also the Nellore Lok Sabha seat.
