As the by-poll results started emerging one after the other since Friday morning, the authorities in Chanchalguda jail are learnt to have changed their behaviour towards YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who has been in the jail for the last three weeks in connection with his alleged illegal assets case being probed by the CBI.
Despite repeated appeals by Jagan, the jail authorities initially refused to provide him cable television facility, as under-trials can watch only Doordarshan and Saptagiri channels even if they are special category prisoners. However, an hour later when it was clearly emerging that YSR Congress party is sweeping polls, the jail authorities took him to the air-conditioned chamber deputy superintendent of the prison, where there was a colour television with cable facility.
Sources said they even allowed to him make telephone calls to his party colleagues and advisors to know the trends from time to time. The afternoon lunch was also provided in the jail official’s chamber. He kept on interacting with his party leaders till the counting is completed. And when his mother, wife and sister came to jail to meet him, they were taken to Jagan and the “mulaqat” took place in the official’s chamber itself, sources said.
After all, no official can afford to displease the person who has all the potential to become future chief minister!
