Mumbai: Six commuters were injured, of which three were serious, after a collision between a Churchgate bound local and Virar train near Andheri on Friday night. Western Railway saidChristina Paul (40), Salim Khan and Rakul Islam (both 21 year old) suffered serious injuries. Three others . Arvind Dubey (48), Sameer malik (16) and forty-five old woman Manimaya- escaped with minor injuries.

The injured were admitted to BSES and Cooper hospital,Andheri. WR spokesperson said , "The accident happened at around 11.10 pm on June 16 after a Virar bound fast local dashed with a Churchgate bound slow local at Andheri." Three coaches of Churchgate local were derailed due to this. He further said, "Services on two lines were restored at about 12.30 am .The coaches were rerailed at 2.30 am and the services on all four lines were restored at 5.30 am."

According to sources, "Virar local was held up due to break binding on the fast track. Around the same time, a Churchgate bound, coming from opposite direction, was being diverted from slow track to fast track. Suddenly, Virar local started moving and both the trains collided buffer to buffer." Since both trains were running at minimal, the impact of collision was minor but potent enough to derail the compartments. An enquiry into the incident will be held.
