With less than a week left for the high stakes bypolls, being touted as ‘semi-finals’ before 2014 general elections, all the main players are sparing no effort to flaunt their might in the high-decibel campaign. On the streets, through the media, leaders of the three main parties, Congress, Telugu Desam and YSR Congress are spewing venom at their rivals. ‘Decency’ is ofcourse, the only word missing from their vocabulary as they are exchanging high-pitched verbal volleys.Behind the scenes, quietly, workers of these parties are going about their ‘work’ doling out ‘inducements’ in ‘cash and ‘kind’.
Meanwhile, chief electoral officer Bhanwar Lal stated on Wednesday that the commission had put a watch on manufacture of gold ornaments and to where they were destined.Speaking to mediapersons at the secretariat he said that the EC had received a large number of complaints about gold ornaments being given by candidates to voters during campaign.
He stated that as of now about 30 kg gold and 13 kg silver along with sarees and sports kits worth Rs 90 cr had been seized by police. He made it clear that after 10 pm no candidate or party worker would be allowed to campaign. If anybody is found doing so, a case would be booked and notices would be issued. He also said that affidavits of recognised party’s candidates would be displayed in the website. Clarifying a question he said that YSRC is not a recognised party.
